The Metacognitive Strategies

You can directly model and teach metacognitive strategies as part of your course content.  First,  review the four metacognitive strategies discussed in the Student Pathway.  Then think about how you can integrate the teaching of these strategies into your normal tutoring practices.  You can listen to an excellent discussion of teaching metacognitive strategies here.  Although directed toward classroom teachers,  this video will give you ideas about teaching metacognitive strategies while tutoring.
